Dan Bryk - Lover's Leap (Teenage USA / Scratchie 2000)

Going home from the bar one night I heard a song on the radio that I wasn't familiar with the sounded like Pavement. My logical assumption was that it was either a new Pavement single or a rarity. It was in fact the track entitled "She Doesn't Mean A Thing To Me Tonight" from Dan Bryk's album Lovers Leap. That had me sold on this album. Dan Bryk comes to us by way of Toronto Canada and brings his piano rock to the masses with the help of Teenage USA and Scratchie Records. His out of tune voice takes a bit of getting used to but if you can get over it you will appreciate Dan's warped sense of humor and his skilled piano playing. He starts off the album with "Mark Turmell v2.0" which is a tribute to a computer game designer. Primarily, the album has to do with some form of love. In Dan's works "These are adult recollections of adolescence". Still, after listening to the entire album the catchiest song has to be "She Doesn't Mean A Thing". It's an instant indie classic. Bryk is a talented songwriter.
